How to Maintain Your Hot Tub

Maintaining your hot tub is simple and important when it comes to keeping a clean and enjoyable backyard getaway.

Maintaining a Hot Tub

When maintaining your hot tub, one of the most important tasks is checking and balancing your water chemistry to ensure your water is balanced and within the ranges that are recommended. Having safe and comfortable water includes adding balancers and a sanitizer to your water, for most this will be chlorine. Adding the appropriate chemicals and amounts to your hot tub will maintain clear and comfortable water.

Another important task when maintaining a hot tub is cleaning your filters every 30 days with a filter cleaner/degreaser. By using a filter cleaner/degreaser and not just water, it breaks down oils, skin cells, bacteria, and more, allowing them to get rinsed off of the filters for better filtration.

We recommend draining and refilling your hot tub every six months, about twice a year. By doing this, you are giving your hot tub and your filters a fresh start with new water and new chemicals. We also recommend every once in a while when you are going to drain and refill your tub, that you add a system flush to your dirty water before draining. Adding system flush to your dirty water, turning on the jets, and forcing the solution to go through the hot tubs plumbing lines will remove biofilm and other buildups that may be present.

As for maintaining your hot tub outside of the water, cleaning the exterior and cover of your hot tub can be done as needed, depending on the climate where the hot tub is located or personal preference.
