Tips to Lengthen Salt Cell Life
Your salt cell is one of the most important working parts of your saltwater hot tub. I think we can all agree that we want our investment aka the salt cell to last as long as it possibly can. Extend your salt cell life! Here are some tips and tricks to help you do so:
The first step in lengthening the life of your salt cell is to have soft water in your hot tub at all times. When your water is soft, this means there is a small amount of calcium hardness or maybe none at all in your water. 50 ppm is recommended. When your water is hard, this means there is calcium hardness that your salt cell is trying to compete with, making your salt cell work harder. This leaves a buildup on your cell and shortens its life.
Keeping your output at a reasonable number for your hot tub is important. Most people keep their output somewhere between 4 and 7. However, this will depend on the size of your hot tub, how much use it is getting, and how many people are in the tub at a time. Think of your salt cell is like a set of tires, if we run them all of the time on full blast every day, all day, they are going to wear out faster than someone who drives short distances only a few times a week. So if at all possible, avoid running your output on your salt cell at full blast, unless it is necessary. And if it is necessary, only run it at full blast for a short amount of time.
Our last tip to lengthen your salt cell’s life is to make sure your filters are always clean, especially the main filter the salt cell goes into. Keeping your filters clean, will allow more flow to your salt cell and prevent your cell from overworking itself and burning out quicker than you would like. We suggest you cleanse your salt cell in an acidic solution about every 60 -90 days to rid the cell of buildup. See the video below for how to clean your ACE salt cell.
