Debunking Saltwater System Myths

While saltwater hot tub systems have been in pools for decades, there was never a saltwater system that was truly optimized for hot tubs until recently. When shopping online or in-store these days, the information available about hot tub salt water systems can be misleading. Luckily, we’re going to dissect and debunk some saltwater hot tub system myths to help you make an informed decision.

Myth: “Saltwater systems can cause erosion on your hot tub and deck.”

When it comes to saltwater systems, rust and corrosion are common concerns. Science has proven that if salt levels are above 3,000 parts per million parts water (ppm), it can advance the rusting process of your tub. While we can’t speak for other dealers, our ACE or FreshWater Saltwater System has a mere 1,200-1,800 ppm. That’s less salt than your tears! You could technically drink a cup of it and be perfectly fine. That being said, we promise your grass, deck, and patio won’t be ruined from the water from your ACE or FreshWater Saltwater System. If you’re still worried about possible damage, our hot tubs come with a hook-up for a garden hose so you can drain your hot tub where you feel more comfortable.

Myth: “Saltwater systems are one-size-fits-all when it comes to hot tubs.”

This myth is simply not true. Aftermarket saltwater systems are not made for any hot tub model or brand in particular. They claim to be a “one size fits all” kind of product, which can cause issues when all hot tubs don’t function the same. In contrast, Hot Springs Spas has the exclusive rights to the ACE or FreshWater Saltwater System and it was developed specifically for Hot Spring Spas. This means that the system is optimized for your hot tub!

Myth: “All saltwater systems are basically the same, just with different pricing.”

No, not all saltwater systems are created equally. As there is a wide range in pricing, there is also a wide range of quality. One that particularly made us laugh, was an aftermarket saltwater system saying, “…specifically designed for portable spas.” Yet, in its own instruction manual (below) its first page states the power supply will not work below 32 degrees F.

Competitor Manual

Obviously, temperatures often dip below 32 degrees in North Dakota so this system will simply not work in our climate. Additionally, using this company’s saltwater system voids your hot tub’s warranty. Basically, if you buy an aftermarket saltwater system, you may save money upfront but you’ll likely find yourself paying more in the long run for damages and repairs due to a lack of quality.

There you have it! We hear these saltwater system myths often, and it can be hard to find what’s true. Luckily, HotSpring Spas & Pool Tables 2 is here for you with the hard facts!
